It will not be possible for Denmark to ban the sale of new gasoline and diesel cars from 2030, a stated aim of both the country's previous and current governments, writes Danish newspaper Berlingske based on a letter dated Dec. 18, 2018, from Polish EU Commissioner Elzbieta Bienkowska to the Danish parliament's European Affairs Committee.

"... under current Union type-approval legislation, a complete ban of the marketing, import or registration of new petrol and diesel cars in a Member State is not compatible with EU law," Bienkowska writes to the committee.
